Prime Minister Tony Abbott isn't planning changes to self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) arrangements, despite warnings the sector is too heavily invested in property.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) on Wednesday noted changes to super legislation in recent years had allowed SMSFs to borrow for investment, particularly in property.
Although the sector doesn't currently "pose material risks to financial stability", it needs to be watched because of the risk of an over investment in speculative property purchases.
Mr Abbott said he wanted to ensure Australia had a strong superannuation system.
"I believe that we have a good superannuation system, that's not to say that it can't be further improved," he told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday.

Mr Abbott reiterated there would be no "adverse changes" to superannuation arrangements under his coalition government.
"I don't think any one should rush to the conclusion that there is too much exuberance in our economy at this time," he said.
"If anything, we could see a little more exuberance in many sectors of the economy, particularly manufacturing."
