Super tax concessions a 'gift', govt says

The assistant treasurer has sought to remind voters superannuation tax concessions are a "gift", fuelling expectations that a change could be coming.

Changes to superannuation tax concessions might be on the cards with the assistant treasurer warning they are a "gift" from government that should not be taken for granted.

Launching a discussion paper that seeks to find an agreed objective for superannuation, Kelly O'Dwyer said no one had a right to a super tax concession.

"It is a gift that the government should only provide when it makes sense," she told a super conference in Melbourne on Wednesday.
