International supermodel Karolina Kurkova is coming to Australia to star in David Jones' spring-summer launch.

The 34-year-old Czech beauty will join David Jones ambassadors Victoria Lee and Jessica Gomes on the catwalk in Sydney on August 8, the retailer announced on Friday.

The retailer said it chose the star as part of this season's shifting focus to "health and wellbeing".

The mother-of-two landed her first Vogue cover when she was 17 and went on to walk for every major fashion house, as well as don her wings as a Victoria's Secret angel.

"Karolina is not only a renowned supermodel with a stellar international career - having walked for the likes of Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Gucci - but also a mother and role model that resonates well with our customers," womenswear and accessories manager Bridget Veals said in a statement on Friday.

The move comes as David Jones continues the $200 million revamp of its Sydney flagship store on Elizabeth Street, aiming to boost flagging sales and bring in big-spending locals and tourists alike.

DJs' South African owner, Woolworths Holdings, recently warned annual profit would fall by up to 20 per cent, hurt by challenging trading conditions at home and in Australia.

In January, the company wrote down the value of David Jones by $712.5 million.
