A group of Trump supporters have paid thousands of dollars to have the president's name written in the Sydney sky while protesters below demonstrated against his ascension to the White House.

A sky writer plastered "TRUMP" in bold capital letters above the city as thousands gathered to protest against the hatred and bigotry they believe has been stirred up by Mr Trump.

Skywriting Australia has confirmed it was approached by a group of Trump supporters to put the president's name in the Sydney sky to coincide with the march.

Putting his name in the air wouldn't have been cheap either, with typical sky writing missions costing around $4000.

A spokesman for the company said it was approached by a group of around 10 Trump supporters who wanted to remain anonymous because they "didn't want the hassle".

"They just wanted to show a bit of support for Trump seeing as he did win an election," he told AAP.

The US president's name was written in Sydney's skies twice with the first Trump drifting out over the water, he added.

The Trump supporters' sky mission appears to have had some success, with protesters reportedly jeering at the sight of the president's name in the sky and photos of the job sparking plenty of reaction on social media.

"Epic sky trolling in Sydney #Trump #womensmarchsydney," one Twitter user posted accompanied by a photo.

Another lamented: "Is this happening everywhere?! God help us... #trump #sydney #sky."
