Veteran surfers could prolong their careers to compete at Tokyo's 2020 Olympics after the sport's inclusion was confirmed this week.
While similar sports with world tours including golf and tennis have had high-level withdrawals in the lead-up to the Rio Olympics, the world's best surfers have already signalled their intent to make sure they can get to Tokyo.
World No.11 Australian Adrian Buchan is 33 and he will be trying to stretch his career out to the Tokyo Games.
"It's definitely something that I think every surfer on tour would have had a think about and would want to be a part of," Buchan told AAP."
Fellow Australians Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons have also expressed their desire to compete in 2020, while Mick Fanning says he would like to be there in a coaching capacity.
And Buchan said that unlike other high-profile professional sports, the vast majority of surfing's best are behind the inclusion.
"We're in this because we love to compete, we love the competitive side of surfing," he said.
"We want to be a part of the biggest sporting event that is staged in the world."
But Buchan has already however predicted the first potential concern for his sport's Olympics debut.
While there are a number of surfing breaks around Japan, he fears that none will fall during July and August.
"Wherever we go for our tour events it's in the optimal swell for that part of the world," he said.
"There's a risk there.
"For me the bummer would be if we had the Olympics and it was held in one-to-two foot beach breaks."
