Australian racecar driver Matt Mingay has successfully undergone facial surgery following a horror crash in America over the weekend.
Mingay was racing in the Stadium Super Trucks series in Detroit when the roof of his truck peeled off after flipping early in the second race of the event.
The 40-year-old suffered severe facial injuries in the crash including losing the entire bottom row of his teeth.
Surgeons performed reconstructive surgery on the Gold Coast-based driver and are hopeful the procedure went well.
"They did an awesome job of putting him back together," former Bathurst 1000 winner and fellow Stadium Super Trucks driver Paul Morris told Speedcafe.com.
"I spoke to the doctor who said it would be two or three weeks before they would consider any move."
Mingay's wife Sheena is at the driver's bedside as he continues his recovery.
It's not the first time Mingay has suffered physically for his profession, the movie stunt driver once joked he had suffered 34 broken bones in his career and was uninsurable.
"Matt has lost all his bottom teeth so there is a bit of a rebuilding process in getting him back to normal," Morris said.
"Considering what he's been through, we are all pretty relieved."
