Susan Sarandon is coming to Sydney to judge this year's Tropfest competition.

The Oscar-winning actress will be Down Under next month to head up the jury for the annual short film contest.

"I love Australia and am extremely excited to be coming to Sydney in February for Tropfest," Sarandon said.
"There is an enormous amount of film talent Down Under, so I'm looking forward to watching all of these amazing short films showcasing Australia's vibrant diversity."

The star of Thelma & Louise and recent critics' favourite, TV series Feud, will take part in Tropfest-related events in the week leading up to the short film competition on Saturday February 17 at Parramatta Park in Sydney's west.

This will be the second year the festival will take place outside of the city, where it originated in Darlinghurst's Tropicana Cafe in 1993.

Last year Bridesmaids star Rose Byrne headed up the Tropfest jury which included actor Sam Neill, Mad Max director George Miller, Bran Nue Dae director Rachel Perkins and Big Little Lies producer Bruna Papandrea.

Past jurors of Tropfest have included Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup and George Miller -- who heads the Tropfest Advisory Board.

The winner of the short film competition will win a Holden Equinox, $10,000 cash and a trip to LA to meet with industry professionals.
