Suspected 'overdoses' at SEXPO in Sydney

NSW Police have urged anyone who knows the source of an unknown drug labelled 'Australia's No. 1' that resulted in two men overdosing to contact them.

Two men have been discharged from hospital after a suspected overdose on a mysterious drug at the SEXPO exhibition in Sydney.

A 21-year-old was taken to Liverpool Hospital after he and another man, aged 24, were treated at the Darling Harbour event on Saturday.

The younger man was sedated and in a critical condition, while the older man was taken to Bankstown Hospital in a stable condition.

Both men had been discharged by Sunday afternoon.

The substance was in a black clip-seal bag labelled as "Australia's No. 1" and is believed to be marketed as an erotic incense.

An image of its packaging, released by NSW Police, shows it declares to "not contain any psychoactive substances" and "does not contain any prohibited substances".

AAP understands the product was sold at SEXPO however a spokeswoman for the event's marketing team declined to comment on its origins.

The National Event Director of SEXPO, Bentleigh Gibson, said it has always had a zero-tolerance policy on illicit substances.

"At no stage did SEXPO staff know this was occurring and are thankful it was bought to our attention to be controlled," he said in a statement to AAP.

"Safety is our primary goal and we want all patrons to feel comfortable attending expos in the future."

Chief Inspector Brad Thorne urged anyone with information about the substance to contact authorities.

He also issued a warning about the risks of taking unknown substances.

"There is a reason why drugs are illegal - they are very dangerous and can be harmful and in some cases, end in death," he said in a statement.

"You need to ask yourself; is it really worth gambling with your life?"
