A suspicious fire has ripped through a home in Melbourne's west and spread to the roof of another home.

A suspicious fire has burnt through a home and spread to another house in Melbourne's west.

Fire crews were called to the fire in Yarraville at about 10pm on Thursday (AEDT).

The fire started in the single-storey weatherboard home, spreading to the roof of a house next door.

A Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) spokesman said the fire caused more than $200,000 damage.

He said the home where the fire started was severely damaged.

The incident was being treated as suspicious.
