Svitolina wins Dubai title to reach top-10

Elina Svitolina will make her top-10 debut on Monday after claiming the biggest title of her career at the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

Ukraine's Elina Svitolina will make her world top-10 debut next week after claiming the biggest title of her career at the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

The in-form Ukrainian defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-2 to make it 12 victories in a row.

Svitolina, 22, will climb from 13th in the rankings on the back of her run in the desert, which included a semi-final victory over top seed Angelique Kerber.

She has been one of the form players on the tour since last summer and made it back-to-back titles after lifting the trophy in Taipei earlier this month.

Svitolina simply had too much power for Wozniacki, who had to make do with a second consecutive runner-up trophy after losing to Karolina Pliskova in Doha last weekend.

The top two seeds will meet in the final of the Hungarian Ladies Open on Sunday.

Timea Babos delighted the home fans in Budapest with a 7-5 6-1 victory over Julia Goerges while Lucie Safarova defeated Carina Witthoeft 6-4 6-3.
