Australia's representation at the G20 meeting will not be hurt by having its leader absent, Deputy Prime Minister Wayne Swan says.
Mr Swan will fly to Canada on Friday for the the G20 summit of world leaders, replacing former prime minister Kevin Rudd who was toppled by Julia Gillard on Thursday.
Mr Swan, who is also treasurer, said he was well across the issues, despite the last minute call up.
"I've attended all G20 meetings with the... former prime minister and I was most recently at the finance ministers' meeting in Korea," he told ABC Radio on Friday.
"I'm very familiar with all of the issues, and I'm very familiar with all of the leaders and the finance ministers in the meeting."

The meeting will discuss financial regulation and global economic matters of importance to Australia in the wake of the GFC.
