Swans' AFL captain Kennedy could face Cats

A scan has shown the hamstring injury of Sydney captain Josh Kennedy isn't as bad as feared and he may play in Friday's AFL game at Geelong.

Sydney captain Josh Kennedy's hamstring injury isn't as bad as first thought and he's one of several wounded Swans who are rated a chance of playing in Friday's crucial AFL away match against Geelong.

Kennedy was injured in last Friday's loss to Hawthorn, but coach John Longmire said his midfield champion had probably pulled up better than expected.

"Not sure whether he'll play this week or not," Longmire said before training at the SCG on Monday.

"He had the scan, it's a little bit inflamed, but certainly a lot better than what our medical staff thought, so that's a good sign, so we'll have to see how the week pans out."

Kennedy is one of many injury concerns for the sixth-placed Swans.

Forward Sam Reid (groin) has missed the past two games, utility Gary Rohan (back) and and midfielder Jake Lloyd (hip) were both late withdrawals from last Friday's match and ruckman Sam Naismith (side) copped a hit against the Hawks.

"They will do a little bit today, but we'll see how they go mainly on Wednesday and make a decision then," Longmire said.

There was one positive piece of news with Longmire declaring forward-ruckman Callum Sinclair's ankle was OK.

Longmire made it clear Kurt Tippett's hopes of a recall hinged on the availability of Sydney's other big men.

Tippett hasn't played a senior game since round 10 due to injury and poor form, but kicked five goals the weekend before last for the reserves, who had last weekend off.

"He's moving quite well and a bit depends on Sam Reid as well, his availability, if he comes back into the team too," Longmire said.

"It's not about Kurt, it's about Sam and what the whole team looks like with, and Naismith, those guys, our general talls."

Sydney's defeat by Hawthorn was their first in eight games since their previous loss to the Hawks.

"We didn't play as well as well as what we had been playing and a bit of that is credit to Hawthorn," Longmire said.

Geelong are notoriously hard to beat at Skilled Stadium, though Sydney beat the Cats in a finals match there last year.
