Sydney hope to have Lance Franklin back to face his former club next week, but fellow forward Gary Rohan is set to celebrate a milestone this weekend.
Rohan is due to bring up his 100th game in his ninth season against North Melbourne at the SCG on Saturday.
Franklin missed last week's win over Geelong with a bruised heel and has already been ruled out of Saturday's match, but could return the following Friday against Hawthorn at the MCG.
"Lance is tracking well," Swans head of football Tom Harley said.
"This time last week he was in considerable pain and was using crutches to get around, he's now moving a lot more freely.
"He won't play this week against North Melbourne, but we do have a view certainly to get him going and every chance to play against Hawthorn next Friday night.
"He'll probably need to start running and then start to build into some training next week, but he's certainly tending in the right direction."
Midfielder Dan Hannebery could also return against Hawthorn, though his groin issue will sideline him for a second week.
The news isn't as positive for key defender Lewis Melican, who has already missed three weeks with a hamstring strain.
He has suffered a setback and will probably be out for another two to three weeks.
Rohan has had his share of injuries, which restricted him to just 27 games in his first four seasons.
He also had a difficult time last month, when one of the twins his wife gave birth to did not survive due to anencephaly, a rare brain condition.
"He's obviously someone that has been through everything you can imagine," Swans forward Isaac Heeney said.
"For someone to come through that and perform like he has been, he's crucial for us down forward there.
"It shows his character, he's just an unbelievable person, off-field and a superstar on the field as well, so crucial for our team."
Heeney is having a strong start to 2018 after he missed the first four games of last season while recovering from glandular fever.
