Hamstrung former Sydney captain Jarrad McVeigh will miss Saturday's AFL clash with St Kilda but star teammates Kurt Tippett and Gary Rohan are on the cusp of returning.

Coach John Longmire will be forced to make at least one change after the Swans crushed North Melbourne by 42 points.

McVeigh, playing the 289th match of his career and second of the season, was restricted in that fixture by what he thought was a tight hamstring.

Scans confirmed it was actually a low-grade strain. It means McVeigh will miss at least one game then be racing the clock to return for the following Friday night, when the Swans host Hawthorn.

"It was a really brave effort by Jarrad to not only play on but contribute with a couple of goals," Swans football manager Tom Harley said.

"He won't play this week and we will assess him as he goes through the week, as to whether he's a chance to play against Hawthorn."

Kieren Jack, who has been nursing a hip injury, will miss a fourth straight game but Harley is upbeat he will be in the mix to face the Hawks.

The news is better for Tippett and Rohan, who have both pulled up well after making injury comebacks in the seconds.

Ruck-forward Tippett has played only three AFL games this year, with the most recent coming in round five against Greater Western Sydney.

Rohan has only featured in rounds five and six. The speedster was hospitalised after landing on his head in a sickening fall at the MCG.

"Both kicked four goals. Both got through the game well and both will be available again," Harley said.

"It'll be a really good match committee this week I'm sure, a deeper list to choose from than we've had in previous weeks."

Dane Rampe's broken arm has fully healed and the versatile defender could return on the weekend, most likely at NEAFL level, if he trains well this week.
