A Swedish footballer has been kicked off the field for farting loudly during a match.
Twenty-five-year-old Adam Lindin Ljungkvist was playing for Pershagen SK against Järna SK's reserve team when he was sent off the field for his "unsportsmanlike" fart.
Referee Dany Kako told local paper Länstidningen Södertälje that Ljungkvist’s flatulence was no accident.
“I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate,” Mr Kako said.
"I was standing a good distance away but I heard the fart loud and clear."
Ljungkvist also spoke to the paper, and said the penalty was nonsense.
“I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go,” he said.
“I asked the referee, ‘What, am I not allowed to break wind a little?’ ‘No,’ he replied … I don’t get it but maybe he thought I farted in my hand and threw the fart at him. But I did not.”
However, the fart was loud enough to be heard by opposition striker Kristoffer Linde.
“I was standing a good distance away but I heard the fart loud and clear,” Mr Linde said.
“It’s the strangest thing I’ve seen on a pitch, and I’ve been playing football since I was eight years old.”
Mr Kako said he had carded players before for other inappropriate on-field behaviour.
“Once there was a player who stood and peed next to the pitch. I showed him a yellow card, too,” he said.
