'Swipe right' ended with unkind Tinder cut

A woman has been granted immediate parole after pleading guilty to attacking her Tinder date with a knife when she found out he was not single.

The perils of modern dating have landed a Brisbane woman in court after she slashed her Tinder date with a kitchen knife when she found out he was already in a relationship.

Alana Rose Jones was on Monday convicted of wounding after she cut the man on the forearm as he was trying to defend himself when their date went sour.

The pair met through dating app Tinder in February 2015 and spent the afternoon drinking before going back to Jones's unit.

Later that evening while the man was passed out, the 26-year-old intercepted text messages from his partner asking where he was.

Jones called the woman and told her they had slept together, but the girlfriend insisted she come to collect him to make sure he was safe.

When the man woke up Jones told him to "get the f*** out" before fetching a kitchen knife, grabbing him by the throat and swinging the blade.

The man suffered a minor cut to his arm trying to defend himself, although Judge Alexander Horneman-Wren said that was more good fortune than anything else.

"The kitchen knife could have done substantial damage to him," Judge Horneman-Wren said.

After the man left Jones called triple-zero saying she thought she had stabbed a man who attacked her in her unit.

The Brisbane District Court heard that while Jones was on bail she punched a 22-year-old woman in the side of the face seemingly for no reason at all while out drinking in Fortitude Valley.

The woman, who was a stranger to Jones, suffered temporary blindness, a bloody nose and a chipped front tooth.

Judge Horneman-Wren said Jones clearly needed personal deterrence from committing violent offences but noted she had taken steps towards rehabilitation.

The 26-year-old was sentenced to 18 months' jail with immediate parole.

It was the second time in nine months a Tinder date has walked free after being in the spotlight in a Brisbane court after Gold Coast man Gable Tostee was last year acquitted of the murder and manslaughter of New Zealand woman Warriena Wright.

Ms Wright, 26, fell to her death from Mr Tostee's 14th floor Surfers Paradise balcony during their first Tinder date in August 2014.
