Sydney artificial reef a 'great catch'

An artificial reef off Sydney's southern shore is being hailed as a great catch as those behind construction hook in.

An artificial reef bound for Sydney's south is being hailed as a great catch for tourists and fishermen as the first concrete modules are dropped to their new offshore home.

It is hoped the Port Hacking reef, the largest of its kind in the state, will attract more than 50 species of fish to the area and support recreational fishers who generate $3.4 billion every year for the NSW economy.

"This is a great catch for the anglers of Cronulla and I look forward to seeing this new reef reel in tourists from across the state to enjoy the beautiful waters off Port Hacking," Member for Cronulla Mark Speakman said in a statement on Tuesday.
