The son of Palestinian-Lebanese parents, Billy "The Kid" Dib is virtually unknown in Australia, but overseas he's a celebrity.

He's managed by his brother, Emad and he's a mentor to his younger amateur-boxing brother, Youseff.

But the family ties don't stop there - Billy credits his mother with giving him the strength to fight.

"My mum comes from the war-torn country of Palestine and you know, she's very strong," he said.

"She's seen a lot you know and had to defend her younger brothers and sisters when army people come into the house and try to kidnap them so my mum is a hard, strong blooded tough-as-nails-sort of person."

He will need that strength when he faces Russian rival Evgeny Gradovich in Macau late November.
