Sydney cab driver carjacked at knifepoint

A man has been charged after a cab driver was carjacked at knifepoint in Sydney's west on Saturday night.

A cab driver has been carjacked at knifepoint in Sydney's west.

Officers tried several times to chase the cab, stolen at Emerton on Saturday night, but backed off due to the driver's "erratic behaviour", police said.

A man was later arrested after crashing into a tree.

The 35-year-old was then taken to Westmead Hospital with head injuries.

Upon release he was charged with several offences including aggravated take and drive vehicle with weapon, four counts of dangerous driving and resisting arrest.

Bail was refused and he's due before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.

Meanwhile, police are searching for a car stolen by nine young men in Sydney's southwest earlier on Saturday.

Three men approached the car, parked in Greenacre, and took the keys from the ignition before six others arrived and forced three men from the vehicle.

The trio who were assaulted suffered minor injuries and did not attend hospital.
