Sydney is cleaning up after a wild storm struck the city on Monday.

A man survived after being struck by lightning while on a yacht at Church Point while a house caught fire in the suburb of Huntleys Cove after it was apparently struck by lightning.

Lightning strikes also caused major delays on Sydney trains and at the airport.

The NSW SES had received nearly 200 calls for help on Monday night, but most of the damage was considered light including leaking roofs, and fallen trees and branches.

The worst-affected areas were Warringah-Pittwater, Maitland and the Hawkesbury district.
