Sydney drivers have been warned to brace for "enormous disruption" as construction ramps up on a light rail route in the city's southeast.
Two lanes along Anzac Parade in Kensington are poised to be permanently removed, while dedicated bus lanes will be opened to general traffic and off-peak parking along the stretch scrapped.
"Construction disruption is going to make life very difficult during the next couple of years," NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance told reporters on Tuesday.
"This is going to be obviously a fairly extensive construction zone. It's going to cause a lot of disruption and we just need people to plan their journeys."
CBD co-ordinator-general Marg Prendergast said commuters should allow extra time and aim for off-peak periods.
"If you've got time-critical pick-ups of your children at school or to make activities, allow extra time, particularly in the afternoon," she said.
Construction is expected to start on Saturday.
