Sydney company fined over crushed worker

A Sydney-based stonework importing company has been fined after one of its sub-contractors was partially crushed while unloading a truck.

A Sydney stonework importing company has been fined $200,000 after one of its sub-contractors was struck by stone slabs and left with a permanent cognitive impairment.

The then 34-year-old truck driver suffered a significant head injury after being hit by nine slabs while unloading a truck in Sydney's south-west in November 2014, after restraints for the slabs were removed during delivery.

Cosentino Australia Pty Limited was found guilty in the Sydney District Court of failing to ensure the worker's safety and was this month fined $200,000, the Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said on Monday.
