A Sydney family of four has been rescued after becoming trapped inside a car overcome by flash floods.
Heavy rains and strong winds hit NSW towns from the Queensland to the Victorian borders as the storm front swept through on Friday, with the State Emergency Service receiving more than 350 calls for help.
Emergency crews are now warning residents across the state to brace for more damaging storms on Saturday.
Rescue crews managed to evacuate the family from the car after they became trapped at Moorebank on Friday afternoon.
"They drove into some flash flooding and got stuck but we had some crews on stand-by that were able to get there quickly and get them out," SES spokesman Phil Campbell told AAP.
Two other rescues were launched in the storms, as crews responded to hundreds of calls for fallen trees and branches, power outages and hail damage.
"Luckily it (the hail) was fairly small, pea-sized sort of stuff rather than the really big hail we were forecasting," Mr Campbell said.
He said emergency services were bracing for more thunderstorms on the horizon.
"We're on our toes against localised flash flooding with fairly heavy rain expected to hit the south coast tonight," he said. "There still are some storms kicking around the west and northwest, and the real risk now is those storms redeveloping tomorrow.
"We could be looking at a repeat of today all over again."
