Sydney FC have appointed Daniel Barrett as W-League coach for the remainder of the 2014-15 season to replace the departing Alen Stajcic.
Barrett, who served the Sky Blues' W-League assistant coach during their 2012-13 championship season, will return to the club following a stint at the International Football School.
Stajcic was earlier this week appointed new Matildas coach and will stay on for the next fortnight.
Barrett said he had big shoes to fill taking over from Stajcic but was welcoming the challenge.
"When you leave Sydney FC you miss it, the whole culture of the club and the Sky Blues family. I enjoyed my time there and I can't wait to start work," he said.
"There are many familiar faces which is great because it means I can hit the ground running.
"The standards have been set at Sydney FC with Alen Stajcic and his time in charge."
Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata said Barrett was a candidate to take on the job long term.
"He has already proved himself with the club during his previous time here and I believe he is the perfect fit to take over from Alen Stajcic," Pignata said
"He was an integral part of our championship-winning team and comes highly recommended by Alen."
Stajcic gave the tick of approval to the appointment, backing Barrett to lead Sydney FC to another W-League title.
"It's great to have someone like Dan come into the team," Stajcic said.
"Having already worked as an assistant with the team for two years, he is well versed in the philosophy and playing style of the group and has great energy to take the team to the top again."
