The Premier flicked the switch on the water pump just after midday, and after trying some of it, declared it to be the most delicious water she's ever tasted.

The controversial $1.9 billion plant in Kurnell can provide Sydney with up to 250 million litres of water a day.

"It tastes like securing Sydney's water supply for the future," Ms Keneally told reporters.
