Two Sydney journalists have been freed from the Israeli detention centre where they were held after commandos stormed an aid ship on its way to Gaza.

"Herald journalists Paul McGeough and Kate Geraghty have boarded an aircraft at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport and are expected to be flown to Turkey this morning Australian time," Sydney Morning Herald editor Peter Fray said on Thursday.

The pair had been assigned to travel on the flotilla of aid ships to run the blockade of Gaza.

Ms Geraghty believes she was hit by a stun-gun fired by Israeli navy commandos after they boarded her ship.

A dual US/Israeli citizen and organiser from Free Gaza Flotilla, Huwaida Arraf, told ABC Radio on Wednesday afternoon that Ms Geraghty had shown her a wound on her arm and told her she wasn't feeling well.
