The Sydney Kings have lost Mirko Djeric from their 2016-17 NBL roster, with the 21-year-old requesting a release.

Djeric is of Serbian heritage and wants to pursue his career in the country.

"The long-held and passionate nature of the player's ambition, combined with the professional manner in which the request was made, has ensured management acted quickly to support the request for a release," the Kings said in a statement.

Djeric signed with the Kings in May from Townsville, where he moved to from Wollongong after debuting at the Hawks in 2013.

The 84-game NBL player also represented Australia in under-17 world championships in 2012.
