The surging Sydney Kings are trying to narrow the gap between their awesome and helter-skelter NBL play.
Their 77-72 home win over ladder leaders Perth on Thursday was Sydney's sixth win from their last eight games, after they started their season with successive losses to Adelaide.
Third-placed Sydney had a 15-point third quarter advantage slashed to just one in the last five minutes, but closed out the win.
"In the ebbs and flows of a game and a season, I think we go through playing phenomenal basketball and then we have a drop off," Kings centre Andrew Bogut said.
'"We need to get to a point where our drop off is still a medium consistent level of basketball.
"Right now sometimes we're helter-skelter or awesome.
We've got to find that niche where our worst is just average, but we're getting there.
"The positive I had out of this is (that) our ceiling is far away compared to most of the teams in this league.
"We know what most teams in this league do, we're still a fresh team as far as chemistry goes, we're ten games in".
"But I don't think we're close to our ceiling and we're looking forward to hitting that and hopefully it's in (the playoffs) in February and March."
Bogut scored ten points from five of seven field goal attempts, and added six rebounds and three blocks.
Both Bogut and Kings' coach Andrew Gaze identified rebounds as an area for improvement.
Perth had a hefty 44-29 advantage on the boards.
"For the most part it's a game that maybe years back could have been a loss, but we grinded it out," Bogut said.
Sydney's next game is on Sunday away to the New Zealand Breakers, who they have already beaten twice this season.
"They are going to come out really really desperate, so we've got to meet that aggression, meet that passion, and determination, or else we lose," Gaze said.
