A man will face court after he allegedly attacked another man with a wooden chair leg and then robbed him.

A 54-year-old man was at home in Petersham in Sydney's inner west just after midnight (AEDT) on Friday when the 49-year-old man came and visited him.

A short time later, the younger man, who was known to the 54-year-old, allegedly assaulted him with a wooden chair leg.

He then ran away with cash, police say.

Emergency services were called and treated the older man for head, leg and shoulder injuries.

Later that day, the 49-year-old went to Marrickville Police Station, where he was arrested and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon causing wounding.

He was refused bail, to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
