Sydney man charged over firearms and bomb

A man has been charged by the Joint Counter Terrorism Team with possessing firearms and an explosive device that were seized from a car in Sydney in February.

A Sydney man has been charged by the Joint Counter Terrorism Team over the alleged possession of firearms and a home-made bomb.

The 41-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and remains in police custody.

Police say two rifles and an explosive device were found in a stolen car in Strathfield South on Saturday following reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Police put nearby streets under lock down while the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit dismantled the device and seized the guns.

The man was charged with two counts of possess unauthorised firearms, possession, supply, or making explosives, and carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was served with a Firearms Prohibition Order and a Weapons Prohibition Order.


He is due to face Burwood Local Court on Wednesday.
