Sydney recycles jumbo amount of e-waste

More than 400 tonnes of electronic waste has been recylcled in inner Sydney since 2008, the equivalent weight of two jumbo jets.

Unwanted electronic items weighing the same as two jumbo jets have been recycled in inner Sydney over the past eight years.

Sydneysiders have dropped off more than 419 tonnes of old computers, TVs, mobile phones and vacuum cleaners since the City of Sydney Council started its free electronic waste collection in 2008.

"That keeps an impressive amount of e-waste out of landfill and helps prevent deadly chemicals leaching into our waterways," Lord Mayor Clover Moore said on Friday.
