Sydney's Drummer Restaurant, staffed by former refugees from Sudan and Burma, is the first of a kind in the food industry and is now a finalist in an Australia-wide competition.

22-year-old Elle Formica came up with the idea after seeing SBS' ground-breaking documentary 'Go Back to Where You Came From'.

The goal of the restaurant is to "provide opportunities for former refugees while also providing an experience for the public to try different food, and have a different restaurant experience - more community focused," Ms Formica told SBS.

The Drummer Restaurant is one of three finalists in the American Express 'Room for Thought' programme designed to find big ideas across the country.
