A semi-trailer driver has been fined after he ploughed into six cars and three trucks on a major Sydney road, momentarily trapping one woman and causing traffic chaos.

Westbound lanes of Parramatta Road in Croydon were closed for several hours after the 11am incident on Tuesday.

Police told AAP the truck driver has been defected and issued with an infringement notice.

One woman was briefly trapped but freed before crews arrived, according to Fire & Rescue NSW.

Paramedics tended to a woman, aged in her 50s, however she did not require hospital treatment.

A witness named Gerald said the truck, which was carrying cement blocks, clipped the mirror of his courier vehicle before mowing down five other cars and three trucks.

"I heard a bang and then I just looked ahead and there were cars and trucks just flying up in the air," he told 2GB Radio.

"He (the truck driver) was flying and he just ploughed straight into the traffic ahead of me, it was just unbelievable."

He said it was lucky nobody was seriously injured in the crash.

"I think it's more shock than anything," he said.

"It's just like a war zone here."
