Sydney Sixers set for virtual BBL quarter

Moises Henriques expects the Sydney Sixers to rise to the occasion against the Melbourne Stars in what could be a virtual Big Bash League quarter-final.

Which version of the Sydney Sixers will turn up at the MCG on Saturday night?

They're the side that became the embarrassment of the Big Bash League last week at the SCG, failing to pass 100 against cross-town rivals Sydney Thunder.

They're also the polished outfit that trumped ladder-leaders Brisbane Heat at the Gabba and title contenders Perth Scorchers at home this season.

Sixers skipper Moises Henriques is confident his team will resemble the latter in what could be a virtual quarter-final against Melbourne Stars, depending on other results.

The men in magenta could slip through to the semi-finals with a loss, but only if Brisbane and Perth both win their final games of the regular season.

Henriques is keen to take a more direct path to the finals, scoffing at the idea his side can't do some damage next week.

"We can still get through (to the finals with a loss against the Stars) somehow, we probably don't deserve to the way we played the other night," the allrounder said on Friday.

"We've beaten both Brisbane and Perth this season, so that gives us pretty good ammunition going into the finals.

"We could still knock off the Stars and all of a sudden we've beaten every single team in the finals.

"We haven't played our best cricket against the teams below us on the table.

"But whenever we play teams above us we sort of lifted for the occasion, hopefully we do something similar tomorrow night."

The Sixers have had a full week to mull what went so terribly wrong against the Thunder. The nature of the defeat that still irritates Henriques.

"We've spoken about decision-making a lot ... all the batters went too hard, too early," he said.

Henriques added it was important not to dwell on such performances.

There were no naughty-boy nets at the SCG this week. The Sixers weren't forced to relive the sloppy shots and gifted wickets that led to such a lopsided derby.

"You want to watch what you did well when you batted well .. you don't want players watching what they did when they didn't bat well or weren't thinking clearly," Henriques said.

"You remind yourself of what works when you do well, so that's batting smart."
