A teenager has been attacked with his own skateboard in Sydney's inner west.

The 18-year-old got into a fight with a group in Petersham before two youths hit him with the skateboard and ran off late on Friday night, police say.

A 17-year-old boy, arrested nearby, will appear in a children's court on Saturday charged with causing actual bodily harm and affray.
