The Matildas will play on home soil for the first time in 19 months when Brazil visit Sydney for two internationals in October.
The October 23 and 26 games will be held at the newly named CommBank Stadium in Western Sydney.
The matches have been given the green light by the NSW government after Football Australia proposed a comprehensive biosecurity plan - which allows for arrivals to bypass the mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine and instead remain in bubbles before games, having no contact with the general public.
Football will be a test case for the gradual reopening of Australian borders to major international sporting events, with Football Australia CEO James Johnson delighted by the development.
"We have made it our priority to bring our national teams home for international football so this is a phenomenal outcome for Australian football... Football Australia put together a submission based on global best practice, focused on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of players and staff, which has been accepted by the NSW government and aligns nicely with its road map to opening up," Johnson said.
"The new arrangement, which is the first for any sport in Australia, allows international football to be played within the defined quarantine period, under strict guidelines.
"We are delighted that Australian football has paved the way for international sport to be played in Australia under this new arrangement."
The decision opens the door for the possibility of the Matildas hosting the United States in late November and for the Socceroos to face Saudi Arabia in a World Cup qualifier on November 11 in the harbour city.
The women's national team last played in Australia in March last year, when they defeated Vietnam in an Olympic play-off match before COVID-19 impacted the world.
