Sydney to host World Rugby meetings

Australia will play host to power brokers from the 15-a-side code next week with key World Rugby committee meetings being held in Sydney.

Australia will be the off-field centre of the rugby union universe next week when the code's leading decision-makers meet in Sydney.

Rugby Australia will host key World Rugby committee meetings.

Discussing global rugby matters over the course of the week will be World Rugby's executive, rugby, regional, audit and risk and regulations committees - and the Rugby World Cup Board.

The committees will consider strategies aimed at fostering continued prosperity and sustainability of rugby at all levels.

Agenda items include include evidence-based player welfare injury-prevention strategies, including the recent lowered tackle height trials.

There will also be strategies to further the commercial strength of the global game, the ongoing implementation of the women in rugby plan and, Rugby World Cup 2019 and 2023 preparation.

Also on the agenda is the host selection process for Women's Rugby World Cup 2021, for which Australia has submitted a bid, and the selection of hosts for the next cycle of the men's and women's World Rugby Sevens Series.

Delegates will consider ways to further optimise the value of international rugby for all stakeholders, while maintaining the framework of the San Francisco global calendar accord agreed in 2017.

"Rugby is currently experiencing strong growth with more men, women and children than ever before taking up the sport, but we must always look ahead," said World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont.
