A Sydney woman will remain behind bars until the new year after allegedly stealing items donated to the NSW Rural Fire Service on Christmas Day in Sydney's northwest.

Police allege Josephine Trask, 37, broke into a Schofields supermarket about 3.40pm on Wednesday and stole food, SIM cards and a trolley of food and drinks donated to the RFS.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later and attempted to stop the woman and a 48-year-old man as they drove away from the scene.

Police allege the woman continued driving, requiring the PolAir helicopter to take over the pursuit.
The car hit a fence shortly after and the couple was arrested.

Ms Trask faced Parramatta Bail Court later on Thursday, charged with break, enter and steal, and negligent driving. She was refused bail and will reappear at the court via videolink on 7 January.
The man is due to front Blacktown Local Court on 3 February, charged with possessing a restricted substance.

Anyone with further information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
