The leafy local government area of Ku-ring-gai in Sydney's upper north shore is Australia's most advantaged, Australian Bureau of Statistics research has revealed.

Cherbourg, about 250km northwest of Brisbane, is the country's most disadvantaged.

The 10 richest areas in Australia are all located around the northern and eastern areas of Sydney Harbour and in coastal Perth, while the 10 worst off are in Queensland and the Northern Territory.
