Former India Test star Harbhajan Singh has effectively called Andrew Symonds a liar and accused the Australian of being a "fiction writer" over his version of the 'Monkeygate' controversy.
Singh allegedly called Symonds a monkey during a 2008 Test match at the SCG.
To mark the 10-year anniversary of the infamous incident, Symonds was interviewed by Fox Cricket and claimed Singh tearfully apologised to him in 2011.
"He (Singh) goes, 'Look, I've got to say sorry to you for what I did to you in Sydney. I apologise. I hope I didn't cause you, your family, your friends too much harm and I really apologise for what I said. I shouldn't have said it'," Symonds recalled.
"And he actually broke down crying, and I could just see that was a huge weight off his shoulders; he had to get rid of it."
Singh was shocked to hear those comments, claiming it never happened.
The 38-year-old has always maintained he never called Symonds a monkey but rather the Hindi slur 'teri maa ki'.
Singh hit back at Symonds on Twitter.
"I thought he was a very good cricketer but Symonds has turned out to be a good fiction writer," he tweeted.
"He sold a story then (2008) and he is 'selling a story' now (2018). Mate, the world has come of age in these 10 years and it's time you also grew up."
With Singh effectively dismissing Symonds' recollection of events, the 'Monkeygate' controversy is set to drag on.
