Tait may raise T20 selection interest

Shaun Tait says age is no barrier in response to calls for his inclusion in Australia's Twenty20 World Cup side after taking 3-16 in the BBL.

Three days after Shaun Tait was belted around the Gabba during an expensive bowling performance, the Hobart Hurricanes quick is being touted for selection in Australia's Twenty20 World Cup squad.

The right-arm speed demon on Friday took a stunning 3-16 off four overs during Hobart's 11-run Big Bash League win over Sydney Thunder at Bellerive Oval.

His scalps included those of international Jacques Kallis and former Australian Test star Shane Watson, both without score and in the innings' first over, serving a major blow to the ladder-leading Thunder.

It was a turnaround in form for the 32-year-old who on Tuesday against the Brisbane Heat finished with a costly 1-54.

"After the last game ... I had to go look in the mirror and come back well for the team," Tait said.

But his latest showing hasn't inspired excitement about the possibility of boarding a flight to India for the start of the T20 World Cup in March.

"I'm getting on a bit now. But I'm bowling well," Tait said.

And the Adelaide-born cricketer said age isn't such a barrier in the shortest form of cricket.

"Twenty20 is one of those games where the more experienced players do well," said Indian Premier League veteran.

"It is a fast game, you've got to think about it a lot.

"I've played close to 150 Twenty20s now so there's no excuses for us older fellas."

Thunder skipper Mike Hussey, who will travel with the Australian side to India as a batting consultant, said Tait would be an obvious consideration for selectors.

"I'm not saying he should or shouldn't be picked but he's certainly got good pace, can swing the new ball (and) he's got experience so I'm sure the selectors will look at him," Hussey said.

"Obviously we (Australia) have got a few injury problems at the moment with the fast bowlers so his name has got to come up and if he's fit and available and bowling well, why not look at him?"

During the week champion Australian spin bowler Shane Warne took to Twitter to give a nod to Tait.

But for the time being Tait said he remains focused on the Hurricanes' BBL campaign, which sees them next take on Melbourne Renegades on Monday at Bellerive Oval.
