Taiwanese woman injured in Tas bush

A woman has spent two nights in the Tasmanian wilderness after badly breaking her ankle.

A woman who spent two nights in the Tasmanian wilderness with a badly broken ankle will spend at least one more night in the bush.

The 27-year-old Taiwanese woman who lives in Hobart was reported missing on Saturday afternoon in the Cradle Mountain National Park, but the rescue helicopter could not be used due to poor weather conditions.

Searchers found her on Sunday morning and carried her on a stretcher to a hut, while a paramedic is walking in to give her medical treatment.

"The woman had left with little clothing or equipment at the hut indicating that she had only left for a short walk and was not equipped for an overnight camp," Tasmania Police said in a statement on Sunday.

"She had spent two nights badly injured in bushland without proper clothing or shelter for the conditions overnight."

The bad weather is set to continue for another night, so rescuers will stay with the woman on Sunday night and hope the rescue helicopter can fly in on Monday to take her out.

"Representatives from the Taiwan Embassy have been regularly updated by police and have been passing information back to family in Taiwan," police said.
