Taliban kill 12 Afghan security personnel

Taliban militants have attacked and killed at least 12 security personnel in Afghanistan's southeast province of Ghazni.

At least 12 local policemen have been killed after Taliban militants attacked their facility in Afghanistan's southeast province of Ghazni, officials say.

At least 20 others were wounded in the six-hour battle, provincial council member Esmat Jamradwal said on Saturday.

Taliban militants also attempted to overrun the district centre of Qara Bagh, but were deterred, said Mohammad Rahiman, who is also a provincial council member.

The militants have increased their coordinated attacks on parts of Ghazni for weeks.

Ghazni member of parliament Arif Rahmani recently posted on Facebook that over the past two months around 600 security personnel have been killed in the province.

On Friday, the extremist group's fighters killed at least 12 local policemen in the northern province of Kunduz, according to officials.

Large areas of Ghazni and Kunduz have been under Taliban control for years.
