Taliban militants have killed at least 14 armed locals in Afghanistan's western province of Ghor.
Another three were wounded in the clashes between the militants and the residents of Dawlat Yar district, provincial councillors Fazul Haq Ehsan and Abdul Basir Qaderi said.
The clashes erupted after an tribal leader in the district refused to join the Taliban, according to Ehsan.
While the government controls all the territory of Ghor province, the majority of the districts are severely threatened by Taliban militants, according to the officials.
Earlier, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the militants paused their attacks on Afghan forces during the three days of Eid celebrations, which ended Thursday.
Despite ongoing talks between the US and the Islamist insurgents to find a political solution to Afghanistan's long-running conflict, the militants regularly attack Afghan and international forces.
Analysts say the Taliban believe that maintaining an upper hand in the conflict could give them leverage at the bargaining table.
