Targeting smoking in Chinese community

In parts of Sydney's Chinese community for example, the male smoking rate is estimated to be around 50 per cent.

While the smoking rate has dropped dramatically overall in Australia, in some recently-arrived migrant groups and among Indigenous Australians, the rate remains high.

This has prompted health professionals to come up with a new campaign specifically targetting them.

Catherine Choi is the co-ordinator of an anti-smoking project being run by the Pole Depot Community Centre in Sydney.

 

She told Peggy Giakoumelos about some of the strategies being used.
