Tas baby assault case in court

A magistrate has ordered that a Tasmanian man enter a plea when he next faces court, charged with assaulting his baby son.

A Tasmanian man charged with assaulting his baby son will be required to enter a plea when he next faces court in December.

Police charged Simon Adam Johnstone, 26, with assault in October as he finished giving evidence to an inquest into the 2012 death of his son, Bjay Johnstone.

The matter was mentioned before Magistrate Simon Brown in Devonport on Monday and adjourned until December 22.

The assault with which Johnstone is charged has not been linked to Bjay's death.
