A pedestrian hit by a bus on Friday afternoon has died, with police closing a major road in central Hobart.

A pedestrian has died in a bus collision in central Hobart in rainy peak-hour conditions.

Police cordoned off central Macquarie Street on Friday afternoon after the pedestrian was seriously injured.

The road was closed to all traffic and likely to remain blocked for several hours.
