Tas take 204-run lead to final day

Jake Doran and James Faulkner are standing strong for Tasmania who take a 204-run lead into the final day of their Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland.

A bold move by Queensland to declare with a 104-run first innings deficit paid some early dividends against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield.

At stumps at Bellerive Oval on Sunday the hosts were 4-100 in their second innings, with Mark Steketee (2-26) leading an early bowling charge.

At one stage the home side was reeling at 4-38.

But Jake Doran (33 not out) and James Faulkner (35 no) dug in to give Tasmania a 204-run lead going into Monday's final day.

The home side's top order was quickly accounted for late on day three with Dominic Michael (two) the first wicket to fall, caught behind off the bowling of Peter George (1-24).

In the next over Ben Dunk (14), who made 142 in the first innings, nicked a Steketee delivery going down leg side, with keeper Chris Hartley again finishing the job.

Former Test batsman Alex Doolan (nine) found the boundary a couple of times before he was caught at point, again off the bowling of Steketee.

That brought skipper George Bailey (nought) to the middle who faced three balls before he was bowled by Jack Wildermuth (1-31).

Tasmania were lucky not to lose another wicket when Doran skied a ball which George got a hand to, but dropped at backward square leg.

Queensland earlier pulled the pin on their first innings at 8(dec)-329.

Shield debutant Sam Heazlett (129) spearheaded the total and found some support from Jason Floros (57) and captain Hartley (33 not out), while the rest of the Bulls line up were cheaply dismissed.

International Faulkner (3-61) was the pick of Tassie's bowlers with his scalps including that of Heazlett.

Spinner Xavier Doherty (3-64) was also a valuable contributor.
