Tas, WA deaths push Aus holiday toll to 34

Deaths on Australian roads this holiday season have risen to 34 with the latest fatalities occurring in Tasmania and Western Australia.

The deaths of three people in crashes in Tasmania and Western Australia have pushed the national holiday road toll to 34.

A rider and pillion passenger were killed in a collision with a utility in Launceston about 9pm on Saturday, police say.

Police say the motorbike was on the wrong side of the road when it struck the ute on the East Tamar Highway, near the Mowbray Connector.

The utility driver sustained minor injuries.

A 53-year-old Katanning man died after the ute he was driving veered into the path of a truck near Broomehill in the south of Western Australia about 5.30pm on Saturday, police say.

The truck driver, 32, suffered minor injuries.

Both crashes were reported by police on Sunday.

The latest deaths took Tasmania's holiday road toll to three and Western Australia's to two.

Over the festive season, 10 people have died in NSW, eight in Victoria, five in Queensland, three in South Australia, two in the ACT and one in the Northern Territory.

* The national road toll period runs from 0001 December 23, 2015 until 2359 January 3, 2016, local times.
