Tasmania beat New South Wales by seven wickets to claim their second Sheffield Shield title on the last day of the final at the Bellerive Oval.

The Tasmanian Tigers chased down their victory total of 203 runs just before tea on the fifth day, capping off a brilliant season in which they won their last six games to host the final.

After a tense struggle Mark Cosgrove hit the winning runs off spinner Stephen O'Keefe to finish with an unbeaten 44.

Cosgrove shared an unbroken 72-run fourth-wicket partnership with Alex Doolan (65 not out).

Former NSW batsman Ed Cowan was named man-of-the-match for his 133, which helped Tasmania set up a narrow first-innings lead of 13 runs.

NSW were forced to risk an early second innings declaration as Tasmania only needed a draw to claim the Shield.

The island state won their inaugural Sheffield Shield title in 2006-07.
